What Is Long Term Care?

The day-in and day-out assistance you need when you have a serious illness or disability that lasts for a period of time and you are not totally able to care for yourself. Long term care includes a wide range of services performed in a variety of environments such as assisted living facilities, continuing care communities, nursing homes or in home care.

This care can consist of skilled, intermediate, or custodial care. Custodial care is most frequent and can be needed for many reasons such as illness, injury, chronic conditions, or fraility due to age. Service provided by custodial care include assistance with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, feeding, mobility, toileting and taking medications.
